The Maidens (review)

KatieRead

The Maidens by Alex Michaelides was an amazing read. Alex Michaelides is my favorite author, and this was the second book I've read by him. The Maidens falls under the categories of mystery, thriller, mythology, Greek stories, and crime. The story is split into six parts. The book is narrated in the third person from the perspective of Mariana Andros, a 36-year-old widow and therapist. Mariana has a niece named Zoe, who, in my opinion, is very unstable. Zoe calls Mariana to explain the death and mysterious murder of Zoe's friend at her school in Cambridge. Mariana makes the sudden decision to go to Cambridge to comfort Zoe, which leads to the unraveling of a group called the Maidens. Throughout this book, I was surprised, caught off guard and disgusted (mainly by the characters' actions and thought processes). This book is very captivating and immediately a page-turner. Overall The Silent Patient also written by Alex Michaelides will never compare to other thriller/ mystery novels. However The Maidens is a close contender. This concludes a total rating of 5 stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
