Yellowface (review)

KatieRead

Yellowface by R.F Kuang is under the category of fiction, adult, thriller (kind of), mystery and race. The book is about Athena a successful author who has several bestselling books “without trying”. Athena is beloved, pretty and overall has a bright future ahead of her. June is Athenas “best friend” who is not a successful author and is constantly comparing her life and struggles to Athenas life. Athenas bright future and many opportunities ends at an evening at her house and enjoying each others company. Moments before Athenas death she shows June her new work, a manuscript. A littles while later Athena suffers a tragic incident leading to her death with June present. June seeks an opportunity to finish Athenas manuscript however claiming it to be her own work. Yellowface had me disgusted, jaw on the floor, uncomfortable, curious and overall windblown of Junes thought process. This book in my opinion is in the perspective of the ‘villain role” ( and white superiority might I add…). I say this because of how June thinks and her excuses to her horrific and questionable actions. I overall give Yellowface by R.F Kuang a total of 5 stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
