The Bell Jar written by Sylvia Plath is under the category of Fiction, Feminism, Mental illness, Mental Health, Literature and Psychology. The Bell Jar is taken place in the 1950’s and talks about mental health/ illness and the social pressures put on women. The main character is Esther Greenwood who is currently a college student. Esther dreams of becoming a poet and has goals and dreams of her potential. Esther is selected for an internship for a month during the summer. Her role is to be a guest editor of Ladies Day magazine. During her time in the internship in New York she struggles with her self identity and the social standards of being a woman. I really loved how Sylvia Plath wrote Esthers story and her struggles. My overall rating would be 5 stars.
