A Room of One’s Own written by Virginia Woolf is under the category of essays, feminism, classics, philosophy, literature and feminist text. Technically “A Room of One’s Own” is a book length essay discussing woman’s struggles in a male dominated world. Virginia’s book is split into 6 parts/chapters also talking about her thesis which is “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction.” The overall message of Virginia Woolf’s book is how women are “underinvested and underestimated in society”. Women everywhere should have access to education and a voice to express their opinions, thoughts and ideas. Woolf’s message also details “the need for women to claim both financial and intellectual freedom”. I really loved how Virginia Woolf expressed her opinions and personal struggles in her collective groups of essays. I believe every woman should read this book and more of her work, especially if you love feminist literature. This book had a tremendous impact towards my view of feminism to the point where I chose her book as a speech topic in my humanities 9 class! Overall I believe Virginia Woolf’s book “A Room of One’s Own” is brilliant and honestly very funny, for these reasons I would give Woolf’s book a total of 5 stars.
